Receive weekly assignments and individualized critique. Become part of an online artist community and learn from that continuum.

The second set of classes in the Painting People series. Please join me in my studio, up close and interactively via the digital world. For 6 weekly two hour sessions, you will get detailed instruction, watch me paint and get personalized critiques of your work. I plan on using a web meeting software for all of us to interact and Procreate to digitally paint on your work to provide feedback and critique it. Weekly assignments will provide a thorough understanding of the topic covered each week. Each session will be recorded for viewing later.

John Singer Sargent spent a lifetime traveling and painting. The Orientalists made a living painting the Far East. How did they do it? Objectives for this class include the challenges of painting from life while capturing information from one's location and focusing on composing what strikes the artist visually. Looking at historical paintings and demonstrations by me, both avid and beginning painters will learn how to improve their skills to make successful paintings from their travels. Studies will be done in oil, watercolor, pencil and markers. Final paintings will be done in oil. Students should bring photographic reference material, on a digital device or printed, to paint from. Some painting experience is recommended.
